The Summerland Festival of Lights
Christmas shopping at local shops and outdoor vendors and the sounds of top performing artists at the Summerland Festival of Lights allow the spirit of our community to shine. An Okanagan tradition for almost thirty years ‘Light Up’ has become synonymous with the start of the holiday season. Thousands flock to Summerland on the last Friday in November and count down the minutes until the switch is thrown to light-up a sea of twinkling lights.
The downtown activities begin at 5:00pm when Santa comes to town. Warm up with delicious carnival foods and get a head start on your Christmas shopping at the festive stalls and in-store specials. Linger at the main stage and listen to top bands and solo performers.
Children can make gifts in Santa’s workshop and drop off a letter at the North Pole mailbox at the post office. With bouncy castles, face-painting, and a ride on an ATV train or a pony, Light Up is fun for children of all ages. Shortly before 8:30pm revelers wander over to the high school field and wait in anticipation for the first flurry of fireworks to light up the sky. It’s official – the holiday season has begun.
